REMOTE MEDICINE
The Field Course for Remote Medical Service


Rotation status

Our programs are in their tenth year of development. At this time, we are able to provide placement at approximately twenty sites spread throughout the developing world. For those of you cannot take our course or would like to arrange specific types of rotations that we do not offer, we recommend rotations at one of the following hospitals with which we have had first-hand experience:

 

Hopital le Bon Samaritain, Limbe, Haiti. Well established, solid program, dependent on volunteers.

 

Embangweni Hospital, Embangweni, Malawi. A Presbyterian mission hospital in rural western Malawi, depending on one to two general practice doctors who rotate on several-year assignment. Minimum two month commitment for students or residents interested in volunteering. Moderate surgical experience depending on the current mission doctor. Interested parties should both write the hospital directly (c/o Medical Officer in Charge, P. O. Chogoria Hospital, Chogoria, Kenya. A Presbyterian mission hospital in rural Kenya on the slopes of Mt. Kenya. One of the contributing centers to the classic Primary Surgery textbook series. Minimum two month commitment for students or residents. Excellent medical experience, variable surgical experience, well set up for visiting rotators. Fills a year in advance. Tumutumu Hospital, Karatina, Kenya. A Presbyterian mission hospital in rural Kenya and off the beaten path. Excellent medical and surgical experience, also well set up for visiting rotators. Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, Moshi, Tanzania. Well established, solid program by reputation. This is one of most famous teaching hospitals in east Africa, and also major contributing center to the classic Primary Surgery textbook series. Excellent website.
